Abstract

An intensive archeological survey of a fifteen acre tract south of Roswell, Georgia located one site, the ruins of Ivy Mill (9FU228). Archival work establishes that the mill was originally constructed in 1856. It was burned by federal troops during the Civil War, rebuilt by the 1870s, and produced woolen and cotton goods until its demise in the l910s. The survey was performed in advance of proposed bridge and road widening that will be adjacent to the site. There is the potential that construction will impact the mill site, which is recommended as eligible to the National Register of Historic Places at the State level of significance. Avoidance of the remains is strongly recommended.
