Abstract

This report documents the findings of a Phase I archaeological survey conducted by Garrow & Associates, Inc. for Robins Air Force Base. Fieldwork took place from June 1-29, 1993 over an area of approximately 37.8 acres (15.3 ha). The study area was divided into four sections. Since the entire survey area was forested, little to no surface exposure was available. Therefore, a 30 m grid was imposed over the entire tract and shovel tests were excavated. Upon encountering a positive shovel test, the interval was closed to 10 m and continued until two negative tests in a row were encountered. Two sites which had been identified in an earlier survey were relocated and their boundaries further refined (9HT38 and 9HT39). Two additional sites were located and are defined herein (9HT99 and 9HT100). All of these sites may be characterized as lithic scatters near the bluff edge located just off of the Ocmulgee River. A method of quantifying the recovered remains was applied. Historical resources identified occurred as either isolated finds or the result of recent activities.
