Abstract

During July 1993 cultural resources surveys were conducted in portions of Compartments 170, 185, 190, and 192 in Greene County and Compartment 155 in Putnam County, Georgia, for a total of 270 acres on the Oconee National Forest. Field reconnaissance located a total of nine archaeological sites, five of which are potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register, and need additional testing to determine eligibility. The remaining sites are considered ineligible and cultural resources clearance is recommended for these. Until the five potentially eligible sites can be tested, avoidance by Forest Service activity is recommended.
