Heritage resources surveys have been completed for 731 acres on the Brasstown Ranger District, Towns and Union Counties, Georgia. These field surveys were completed during October through December 1994 by Rebecca E. Bruce, as part of the general Forest cultural resources survey and inventory prior to decisions on ground disturbing activities. Portions of the following 18 compartments were examined; 304, 305, 316, 318, 325, 327, 349, 350, 351, 354, 355, 356, 357, 358, 371, 372, 373, and 399. A total of four previously unrecorded sites were found and two are recommended for protection and avoidance. The other two are determined non-significant and no further work is recommended. These projects are directed towards identifying and recording cultural resource properties, both prehistoric and historic, in compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, the USDA Forest Service Southern Region Programmatic Agreement, and the MOU with the Georgia SHPO, and NEPA.
