Abstract

On March 24, 1995, the Georgia Power Company staff archaeologist conducted an archaeological investigation of four properties previously determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. These properties are within the Barnett Shoals Hydroelectric Project boundary. The purpose of the project was to determine whether recent ground disturbing activities on the four archaeological properties seriously disturbed or destroyed the sites. Gerald K. Lowe was Principal Investigator and also served as Field Director. Three of the four cultural properties were relocated and one site was not relocated and assumed to be completely destroyed. All four cultural properties have been impacted by land and vegetative clearing techniques and erosion. One of the four has been disturbed by residential construction.
