A Cultural Resources Survey of Selected Areas Within the Brasstown, Chattooga, Cohutta, Tallulah, and Toccoa Ranger Districts, Chattahoochee National Forest, Northern Georgia

Abstract

In compliance with federal laws and regulations, a cultural resources survey was conducted within selected tracts of the Chattahoochee National Forest, Banks, Fannin, Gilmer, Habersham, Murray, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White Counties, Georgia. This project resulted in the reconnaissance level archaeological survey of 3,995 acres. Forty-nine archaeological sites were recorded or revisited within the project area, and recommendations were made as to site classification relevant to National Register of Historic Places criteria (Table 1). This project was conducted for the United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, under Contract Number 43-435H-1-0352, by Panamerican Consultants, Inc. Fieldwork was carried out between July 1 and September 10, 1991.
