Abstract

This is a Phase I survey of a portion of a previously recorded site, 9Du81. The purpose was to examine the effect of usage of the site as a spoil dump for dredging to clear a nearby channel. The Army Corps of Engineers requested a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey to determine impact on the proposed spoil site before allowing the project to proceed. The site has been both surface collected and subsurface tested by posthole tests and two test pits. Controlled grids were established along surveyed land lines, and a grid system using surveyed land markers and measuring tapes were used. The site examined was found to be heavily impacted by destructive forces, natural and man-made. The effect to the site of previous forces has resulted in heavy site destruction.
