Abstract

In November 1997, Brockington and Associates, Inc. conducted an archaeological survey of the proposed Flat Shoals Road improvement corridor in Rockdale County, Georgia. Project goals included background research, archaeological field survey, and management recommendation development. Background research conducted at the Georgia State Archaeological Site Files in Athens found no previously recorded archaeological sites in the proposed corridor. Research conducted at the Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Natural Resources did not locate any properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Archival research indicates very low archaeological potential within the project corridor. Archaeological field survey did not locate any archaeological sites. Since no cultural resources were identified, it is recommended that the project be granted archaeological clearance to proceed.
