Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey of the two mile long Phase V segment of the Harry S. Truman Parkway encountered three archeological sites and a historic house dating to 1926. Due to the low research potential associated with early twentieth century sites, neither 9CH809 nor 9CH810 are considered to be eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The third archeological site, 9CH791, had previously been recorded and evaluated as ineligible to the NRHP. This site partially extends into the Phase V study area, but again it is recommended as ineligible due to severe disturbance and low research potential. The 1926 historic house is recognized as a poorly defined architectural style known as the side-hallway house. The setting has been altered, and the house has been remodeled using materials not in keeping with the originals. This resource, too, is recommended as ineligible to the NRHP. Although parkway construction will effect these sites, the effect will not be adverse, and work should be allowed to proceed.
