Abstract

On October 11, 2000 Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) conducted a Phase I archeological survey for the proposed replacement of the Pobiddy Road bridge over Flint River in Talbot and Upson Counties, Georgia. The survey was conducted for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) through the firms J. B. Trimble and Edwards Pitman Environmental, Inc. in Atlanta. According to the GDOT concept report, the existing bridge will be replaced with an approximate 200 x 10 m (650 x 35 ft) bridge on a parallel alignment south of the existing structure. This will require an additional 23 - 45 m (75 - 150 ft) of right-of-way. In addition, building the new bridge south of the existing structure will result in a corresponding shift of the approach road for a total length of 1100 m (3600 ft). No archeological sites exist within the area of potential effect. Therefore, the proposed project will not effect any significant archeological remains. No additional archeological studies are recommended in association with this project.
