Abstract

On June 6, 2000 an archeological survey was conducted within the area of potential effect for a proposed reconstruction of the existing intersection of Arnold Mill Road and Green Road, in northern Fulton County. The existing two-laned, T-intersection will be widened and slightly reconfigured to aid traffic flow, mostly by adding new turning lanes. Most of this new construction will occur within existing rights-of-way of the two roads, but close to the intersection some additional right-of-way is required. The survey confirmed that the most of the proposed improvements are within the existing rights-of-way of Arnold Mill Road and Green Road, which have been disturbed by ditching and grading associated with the present roads. Archival research showed that no archeological or house sites occurred in the project area, but that three houses stood nearby. Field inspection and shovel testing failed to recover any evidence of prehistoric or historic sites in the project area. No archeological sites exist within the proposed project's boundaries. Therefore, construction will not adversely impact any significant cultural resources and the project should be allowed to proceed.
