Abstract

A cultural resource survey was completed for the 85 acre Citron Land Exchange in Union County, Georgia. This area is characterized by steep mountainous terrain along a small creek. It was surveyed in February 2002, and one site was found along the creek. It is recommended as potentially eligible to the National Register. Therefore, it is recommended that the land exchange exclude this archeological historic site from the rest of the exchange since it is on the west edge of the proposed exchange. Additional testing will be needed in the future to determine National Register eligibility. This survey is directed towards identifying and recording cultural resource properties, both prehistoric and historic, in compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, the USDA Forest Service Southern Region Programmatic Agreement, and the MOU with the Georgia SHPO and NEPA.
