Abstract

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) wishes to replace a bridge over Pughes Creek on State Route (SR) 199 in Laurens County, Georgia. The Area of Potential Effect (APE) for the proposed bridge replacement project includes both existing and newly required rights-of-way. Southeastern Archeological Sources, Inc., contracted with the GDOT through the engineering firm of Post, Buckley, Shuh & Jernigan, Inc., conducted an archeological survey of the proposed project's APE on July 9, 2002. The archeological survey found no archeological resources and a background search conducted prior to the archeological survey found no existing archeological sites recorded within or close to the APE. Therefore, the proposed bridge replacement project will have no adverse effect on archeological resources.
