Abstract

On November 13, 2002, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) archeologically surveyed eight highway intersections in Cherokee County, Georgia (Figure 1). The survey was undertaken to ensure that the Georgia Department of Transportation is in compliance with Federal regulations concerning the disposition and protection of significant cultural resources (National Historic Preservation Act of 1966--as amended). Three of the intersections are on state routes on the outskirts of Canton, two are interstate highway (1-75) exit/entrance ramps, one is a heavily developed intersection near the interstate highway and one is a rural crossroads. No archeological sites were discovered, and no further archeological studies are needed at these intersections.
