Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archeological sites in the area of potential effect of an intersection improvement project proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation. Archeological survey was conducted at the crossing of SR 47 by Elam Heights/Lillian Sims Avenue (CS 514) in Lincolnton, Lincoln County, Georgia. The survey located one archeological site within the project area, site 9LC1060. Based on the few artifacts found in the project area, the site appears to be the remains of an early twentieth century house. Southeastern Archeological Services recommends that site 9LC1060 does not contain archeologically significant deposits that would contribute to NRHP eligibility. Therefore, the proposed project will have no adverse effect on significant archeological resources. Other considerations notwithstanding, we suggest that it be allowed to proceed as planned.
