Abstract

On July 13, 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted a Phase I archeological survey of an eight acre tract in Cobb County, Georgia. Georgia Transmission Company is proposing to build a 230/12kV substation at this location, which is close to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. The survey located one site (9CO558), a scatter of nineteenth century artifacts, primarily nails, on a hillslope in the northern part of the triangular shaped tract. The site has poor integrity and little research potential. Therefore, it is recommended ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Construction of the substation will not adversely affect any significant archeological sites.
