Abstract

The proposed project would improve the intersection of Stewarts Mill Road and Yancey Road/West Stewarts Mill Road in Douglas County. The proposed project would adjust the vertical geometry along the southbound approach along West Stewarts Mill Road. The proposed project length along Stewarts Mill Road is approximately 1,300 feet and 850 feet along West Stewarts Mill Road/Yancey Road. Along Stewarts Mill Road, both the eastbound and westbound lanes would be widened to provide left turn lanes. In addition, a southbound turn lane onto Yancey Road from Stewarts Mill Road would be constructed. Stewarts Mill Road is a rural two-lane undivided roadway. The existing lane widths vary from 10 to 12 feet and the proposed lane widths would be 12 feet. The existing right-of-way ranges from 70 to 100 feet. The proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 150 feet with 20 feet of temporary easement. West Stewarts Mill Road is two lane roadway with eastbound and westbound turn lanes. The existing lane widths vary from 10 to 12 feet and the proposed lane widths would vary from 10 to 12 feet. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet and the proposed right-of-way would range from 100 to 150 feet with 20 feet of temporary easement. Yancey Road is a two lane roadway with eastbound and westbound turn lanes. The existing lane widths vary from 10 to 12 feet and the proposed lane widths would vary from 10 to 12 feet. The existing right-of-way ranges from 50 to 75 feet and the proposed right-of-way ranges from 85 to 100 feet with 20 feet of temporary easement. In addition, six-foot sidewalks would be constructed at the northeast and southwest quadrants of the intersection. Approximately 360 feet of sidewalk would be constructed along the south side of Stewarts Mill Road, 350 feet along the north side of Stewarts Mill Road, 400 feet along the east side of West Stewarts Mill Road, and 450 feet along the west side of Yancey Road.
