Abstract

This is a GDOT archaeological report short form for negative findings for An Archeological Resurvey of the Proposed Wrightsboro Road Project in Richmond county, Georgia. The proposed project consists of the widening of approximately 4.1 km (2.6 mi) of Wrightsboro Road, located on the west side of Augusta, Georgia. Construction will add two lanes, making this a four-lane road. The proposed right-of-way will be 31 m (100 ft) wide. Construction easements are also planned along the length of the project. This project was first surveyed in 2000, then a realigned section was surveyed in 2002 (Braley 2000; 2002). The current survey was undertaken because the proposed construction easements will be slightly wider than originally designed. Compared to the old concept plans the revised construction easements will be about 10 - 20 ft wider in places. The survey was conducted by Ron Schoettmer on February 20, 2006. He visually inspected exposed ground surfaces and excavated seven additional shovel tests within the new construction easements. Soil was sifted through .64 cm (.25 in) screen. Shovel test locations were marked on the concept plans, and survey conditions were also recorded. Representative photographs were taken.
