Abstract

This is a GDOT archaeological report short form for negative findings for a Phase I Archaeological Survey for the Construction Improvements to the Intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Anneewakee/Dorsett Shoals Road in Douglas County, Georgia. The proposed project would improve the intersection of Chapel Hill Road at Anneewakee Road/Dorsett Shoals Road in Douglas County. The proposed project would realign the intersection on new alignment north of the existing intersection and would widen all approaches to include exclusive 12- foot right turn lanes and12-foot through lanes, one in each direction. The project would also add curb and gutter, sidewalks along the northeast quadrant of the intersection, and 10-foot grassed shoulders. The project would also update the existing traffic signal and construct four traffic islands, one in each quadrant of the intersection, for traffic separation and pedestrian refuge. The proposed Anneewakee Road/Dorsett Shoals Road. Total project length is approximately 4,400 feet (0.83 mile). Pedestrian visual inspection and photo-documentation was performed in the project area. Portion of the APE along the east side of Chapel Hill Road has been recently disturbed. Ground visibility in this area was 100 %, no cultural material was identified or recovered. One transect consisting of ten shovel tests was excavated in the area of new location. Stratigraphic profiles for all shovel tests indicated that intensive agriculture has taken place and has contributed to erosion in this area. All shovel tests were negative.
