Abstract

The Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests recently completed a survey of 52 acres for a proposed wildlife pond on the Oconee Ranger District in Putnam County. The fieldwork involved intensive archeological survey of the proposed project area to identify and evaluate heritage resources, and to assess project effects on recorded properties. Fieldwork was completed between July 2005 and April 2006 and three previously unreported archeological sites (9PM1560, 9PM1561, 9PM1562) were recorded (Table 1), all of which were determined to be ineligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). These sites include a twentieth century sawmill, a twentieth century farmstead, and a prehistoric lithic scatter of unknown age.
