Abstract

Project STP-29-1(32) would widen, realign, and replace the existing drainage system on SR 49 in Terrell County. The project was originally surveyed in 2002 by Teresa Lotti (HPO11126-003). Since that time the project has been lengthened on the eastern end by 0.16 mile. The maximum amount of required right-of-way varies with an additional 30 feet for a total maximum width of 160 feet. An additional 10 feet of required right-of-way has been added to SR 45 where it intersects with SR 49. Lastly, CR 82 will be realigned and extended to tie into the new alignment portion of SR 49, requiring an additional 75 feet of right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above".
