Abstract

The overall project consists of the replacement of the SR 20 bridge over Walnut Creek in eastern Henry County. The original archeological survey was conducted in 2003 (Patton 2003). At that time, improvements to the intersection of SR 20 and CR 115/ McMullin Drive were not included on the plans. CR 115/McMullin Drive is located on the north side of SR 20 and east of Walnut Creek. This short form documents the follow-up archeological survey of the proposed improvements to the intersection of SR 20 and CR 115/McMullin Drive. The total length of the CR 115/McMullin Drive project is about 500 feet from the SR 20 right-of-way. Along most of CR 115/McMullin Drive the proposed right-of-way will be 60 feet, but the proposed right-of-way flares out to 190 feet at its intersection with SR 20. Most of the project area consists of old agricultural fields. A new sanitary sewer line has been installed along the east edge of McMullin Drive, apparently within the proposed new right-of-way. A small cemetery, known as the Humphrey Cemetery, abuts the southwest edge of the proposed CR 115/McMullin Drive improvements. Field inspection confirms that the proposed new right-of-way does not encroach on the cemetery. A report on the delineation of the Humphrey Cemetery has been sent to the GDOT under separate cover.
