Abstract

R. S. Webb & Associates (RSWA) conducted a cultural resources reconnaissance of the proposed 48 acres Forest Park Quarry expansion project tract in October 2006. RSWA recorded five archeological sites within the present project tract as a result of the 2001 Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed Fifth Runway Overland Conveyor Site (Quirk and Jordan 2002). The five previously recorded sites within the project tract were determined ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) based on the 2001 study (Quirk and Jordan 2002). A small segment of the present project area, located on the east side of the Flint River, was not surveyed during the 2001 study. We revisited the five previously recorded sites and the area east of the Flint River, were examined during the present project. The five previously recorded sites were destroyed by work conducted under the previous permit (for the Fifth Runway Overland Conveyor project). No cultural resources were identified in the segment of the project tract on the east side of the Flint River. Implementation of the Forest Park Quarry expansion project would not result in an effect to significant cultural resources. Clearance to proceed with implementation of the Forest Park Quarry expansion project with no further cultural resources work is recommend.
