Abstract

GDOT Project STP-165-1(60) would consist of the widening of Snapfinger Road from Flat Shoals Parkway to Wesley Chapel Road in southwestern DeKalb County, Georgia. This report is an addendum to two previous reports. The initial report was submitted in 2001 and is on file at the Georgia Archaeological Site Files (GASF) #2051. An additional survey for an intersection improvement at Snapfinger Lake Drive with various easements along the corridor was conducted in 2005. The technical memorandum for this survey is on file with GASF as survey #3376. Since then, the project has been redesigned to include the construction of a new driveway for the Wesley Chapel Branch of the United States Post Office (USPO); the current survey was designed to locate any archaeological resources that would be impacted by the construction of this new driveway. The area of potential effect for the current survey is the .40 kilometer (km) long by 60 meter {m) wide project corridor for the proposed new Post Office Driveway, which extends north from Snapfinger Road. The southwestern corner of the proposed project area begins approximately 230 meters southeast of the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road and Snapfinger Road. The footprint of the proposed driveway includes the aforementioned .40 km by 60 m corridor, with the addition, of a small linear segment extending west 30 m from the northwestern corner of the project area. This segment is 30 m wide and roughly follows the southern portion of an existing paved area associated with the Wesley Chapel Branch of the USPO.
