Abstract

In March of 2008, a group of dedicated volunteers led by Andrea Marroquin of the Jekyll Island Museum conducted Phase I archaeological research in advance of three proposed hotel construction projects on the grounds of the former Holiday Inn, Georgia Coast Inn, and Buccaneer Beach Resort properties. Based upon findings of prior disturbance and an absence of prehistoric or historic cultural material within the three project areas, the proposed hotel projects were assessed to have no effect on Jekyll Island's cultural resources. No further archaeological research of these properties was recommended.
