Abstract

The proposed project would tie Dasher Street into State Route 520/U.S. 82, widen Dasher Street, and add an accel lane to Railroad Avenue. Dasher Street would be extended on new location approximately 100 feet north and would tie into State Route 520/U.S. 82, creating a new intersection. Dasher Street would be widened from 12 feet to 24 feet from McCranie Street to Railroad Avenue. An accel lane would also be constructed on Railroad Street. This accel lane would begin at Dasher Street going west approximately 80 feet with a 100 foot taper. All construction will be within existing right-of-way except for the new location that belongs to the city of Willacoochee. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
