The original proposed project would consist of replacing the bridge spanning Big Cypress Creek along CR 124 in Baker County. The existing bridge is a 120' X 24' concrete structure, and would be replaced with a 120' X 28' concrete structure. CR 124 will be closed during construction utilizing an off-site detour. Existing right-of-way is 100 feet, and an additional 10 feet of right-of-way would be required on each side of the road. The project length is approximately 1200 feet. The revised concept would require an additional 15 feet of right-of-way on each side of CR 124, for a total of 130 feet of right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
