Archaeological Reassessment of Project STP-052-2-(18), Barrow County

Report Number
4687
Year of Publication
2001
Abstract

The proposed project would consist of the construction of an eastern bypass for the city of Winder in Barrow County. Previously surveyed by the Department and New South Associates, the current "Alternate G" was developed in order to minimize impacts to historic resources at the north and south ends of the project. "Alternate G" begins at the intersection of CR 141/ SR 316 and CR 139/ SR 316 and proceeds northward around the east side of the city of Winder. From the CSX Railroad to south of SR 11, 'Alternate G" would be the same as the approved concept. At this point, the alignment shifts slightly east. The total project length would be 6.2 miles. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. No existing or eligible National Register resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect.
