Abstract

Project PR-184(025) involves the grading, drainage, base, and surfacing of CR 184 (Florida Loop Road) in Brantley County. The project would begin at the intersection of SR 520 and would end at the intersection of Sn 23 in the city of Nahunta. Existing right-of-way is approximately 6.1 m (20 ft). From the beginning of the project to :st west of Station 55 + 60.09 and from just west of Station 89 + 4-1.24 to the end of the project, approximately 12.2 m (40 ft) of additional right-of-way would be required. From just west of Station 55 + 60.09 to just west of Station 89 + 40.24, approximately 18.3 m (60 ft) of additional right-of-way would be required for the completion of the proposed project. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of-way was conducted for the entire length of project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Ad-ministration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
