Abstract

An archeological survey conducted by Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., Athens, Georgia of 3 km (1.9 mi) of proposed right-of-way along Francis Bridge Road in Washington County, Georgia recorded four archeological sites and three archeological occurrences. Sites 9WG150 and 9WG151 record artifactual remains associated with late nineteenth through early to middle twentieth century occupations. 9WG1 49 also records the remains of a late nineteenth through early twentieth occupation, but it also has a prehistoric ceramic component. 9WG152 records a small, low density prehistoric artifact scatter. Two of the three occurrences are prehistoric and the third is historic. None of these cultural resources were recommended as eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The proposed improvements of Francis Bridge Road from a single-lane dirt road to a two-lane dirt road will not adversely affect significant archeological sites.
