Abstract

This project is the addition of a passing lane on a portion of S.R. 136 between* Villanow and S.R. 151. Although this is a state-aid project, a small portion of the project (approximately 2000 feet), located at Maddox Gap, encroaches upon U.S. National Forest land and thus requires survey. The amount of right-of-way take varies from about 10 to 60 feet on either 'side of the road. The entire survey area was walked and all exposed road cuts, ditches, eroded areas, etc. were examined. No significant cultural materials were recovered. In this area S.R. 136 is cut into the side of a mountain and steep slopes ascend to the east and descend to the west. Most of the needed-right-of-way area has been previously disturbed due to original road construction.
