Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey of the proposed City of Fairburn Land Application Site in Fulton County, Georgia was conducted to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area and assess resource significance. The project area covers approximately 121.5 hectares and is located along both sides of Line Creek, 5.0 kilometers south of Fairburn. In total, nine archeological sites, one historic structure complex, and four isolated finds were recorded. There was one identifiable prehistoric occupation dating to the Middle to Late Woodland period, and several identifiable historic occupations ranging from the middle 19`'' to late 20' centuries. Eight archeological sites, and the four isolated finds are recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). One prehistoric site (9FU401), and the historic house complex (FU-177) at Site 9FU393 are considered potentially eligible for the NRHP. Site 9FU401 will not be affected by the current undertaking and can be preserved in-place. The historic structure complex may be impacted by the placement of a spray field surrounding the complex. Preparation of a determination of eligibility document is recommended to provide information for assessing the significance of the property.
