Abstract

ON December 14 through16, 1993, Chip Wright and Allen Freeman of this Office conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the Evans County Public Fishing Area, Evans County, Georgia. Three areas of cultural significance were located during the survey, all of which are of an historical context. The purpose of this survey was to locate cultural resources within the PFA boundary of a cultural importance that would be affected by any development activities. Surface inspections of eroded hillsides, trails, fire breaks, parking areas, cultivated fields, and bases of trees were conducted. Shovel tests measuring 30 centimeters squared were dug to sterile subsoil and were screened through .25 inch hardware cloth.
