Abstract

In June of 2009, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted a Phase I archeological survey of the proposed 85 acre Marina Bay Park in northwestern Hall County. The goal of the survey was to locate and evaluate archeological sites within the area, so that potential effects to those resources could be evaluated in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The project area consists mainly of wooded ridges but also contains two stream drainages. Over 100 shovel tests were excavated during the survey. Three archeological sites (9HL555, 9HL556 and 9HL557) and three isolated artifacts were found. Because the sites have poor integrity and low research potential, none of these resources are considered to be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. We therefore recommend that the project be allowed to proceed.
