Abstract

The proposed project would construct access to the southwest corner of Moody Air Force Base. The proposed project would construct a curb and gutter, raised median, paved road that would serve the new commercial gate, the mobile home park, and provide access to Roberts Road. For safety considerations, Moody desires to upgrade the rail crossing to fully activated controls, to lengthen turn lanes along SR 125, and to install signalization. Right-of-way would be acquired to allow for the proposed widening and realignment of Davidson Road. Additional right-of-way would be acquired to allow for the realignment of Roberts Road at the intersection of Roberts Road and Davidson Road. The realigned Davidson Road would be approximately 1,200 feet in length from SR 125 to the base boundary and would consist of four lanes. Each lane would be 12 feet in width with 24-inch concrete curb and gutter. Turn lanes would be provided for the intersection of Davidson Road and SR 125. The intersection at SR 125 would be upgraded to lengthen existing turn lanes to allow for more vehicular storage. The existing rail crossing would be upgraded to fully activated control. The intersection with SR 125 would be signalized. Along the northern right-of-way, a natural gas line owned by Atlanta Gas & Light and underground telephone lines and banks owned by Bellsouth would require relocation. Along the southern right-of-way, overhead power lines owned by Colquitt EMC would require relocation along with a forcemain owned by Lowndes County Utilities Department. Pedestrian access would be provided by walkways connecting the sidewalk on SR 125 and extending on both sides of the new alignment. All bike and pedestrian facilities would be in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The section of Davidson Road on the west side of SR 125 has recently been paved to serve the new 130-lot residential subdivision known as Miller Farms. The work at the intersection with SR 125 will be integrated into this proposed project.
