Abstract

The project will replace deteriorated non-ADA compliant sidewalks with pedestrian safety features; improve and enhance pedestrian crosswalks; provide a landscape buffer along the railroad right-of-way; incorporate ornamental pedestrian lighting along the corridor; and eliminate several of the unsightly overhead utilities. Improvements will include approximately 1,850 linear feet of new concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter, handicap curb ramps at all street intersections, pavement markings (crosswalks and parking), consolidation of several existing curb cuts, street landscaping, and pedestrian scale lighting. The proposed streetscape for the project will include 5-feet minimum sidewalks separated from the travel lanes by a street furniture zone that will include street trees and landscaping along both sides on North Central Avenue. The proposed streetscape will be integrated with the improvements to the existing pedestrian bridge which crosses over the railroad tracks and connects North and South Central Avenues.
