Abstract

The proposed project would improve the intersection of SR 2/61 and CR 34/Duvall Road in the city of Chatsworth. A northbound left turn lane would be added to SR 2/61. Improvements on CR 34/Duvall Road would include the addition of a left turn lane (shifting the lane configuration approximately 1.2 m (4 ft) to the south) and the installation of a traffic signal. The project would extend approximately 256.0 m (840 ft) north of CR 34, approximately 122 m (400 ft) south of CR 34, and approximately 182.9 m 600 ft) west along CR 34. The existing right-of-way is approximately 30.5 m (100 ft) along SR 2 and is approximately 24.4 m (80 ft) along CR 34. Additional required right-of-way would vary to a maximum of approximately 10.7 m (35 ft) along SR 2 and CR 34. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted along the entire project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources.
