Abstract

The project consists of proposed improvements to the intersection of Dallas Highway (SR120) and Ernest Barrett Parkway. A right turn lane would be added to Barrett Parkway southbound. Additionally, the westbound and northbound left turn bays would be reorganized to create a second left turn lane. All lane additions would be constructed within the existing approximate 180-foot right-of-way of Dallas Highway and the existing approximate 140-foot right-of-way of Barrett Parkway. The Soil Survey of Cobb County, Georgia (Thomas 1973) list a single soil type within the project area. Soil at the intersection consists of a mixture of Madison and Pacolet soils at 10 to 15 percent slopes. These soil types are considered severely eroded. The project area falls in the Central Uplands District. This area consists of series of low, linear ridges 1300-1500 feet AMSL separated by wide, open valleys (Clark and Zisa 1976). The project area was located on generally level land resulting from commercial and roadway development. Land use of the intersection consists of dense commercial development. All vegetation in the project area results from landscaping. Ground cover is minimal due to clearing for commercial development. The right-of-way along both lanes of both Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway have been impacted by the instillation of subsurface fiber optic utilities, as well as road drainage, telephone lines, and sewer services.
