Abstract

Archaeological survey of a 302 acre proposed reservoir in Henry County, Georgia, resulted in the identification of six archaeological sites and the revisit of a previously recorded site. Survey methods included background research, a records search, and 40 interval screened shovel testing. Limited surface survey was also utilized. The sites discovered and revisited were plow zone scatters of prehistoric lithics and ceramics, suggesting light use of the survey tract through the Archaic and Woodland periods. Only Survey Site 6 has any evidence of intact cultural deposits, and the site is recommended for avoidance or testing. Site 6 is recommended as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, while the remaining six resources are recommended as not eligible.
