Assessment of Project STP-012-1(89), Forsyth County

Report Number
6495
Year of Publication
2000
Abstract

The proposed project would add left turning lanes at the approaches of the intersection between SR 306 and SR 369 and install a stop and go traffic signal. Approaches would be widened 12 feet, and widening would occur within existing right of way. Additional right of way would be required for possible slope easement and miters at northeast and northwest corners of intersection only. The total project length is 0.53 mile. The project begins 700 feet southwest of SR 306 and 700 feet northwest of SR 369 and extends to 700 feet northeast of SR 306 and 720 feet southeast on SR 369. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
