Abstract

This report documents the results of a literature and records search and field investigation of a 2,000 linear foot (610 meters) segment of Georgia Power Company's proposed Fortson-North Tifton Transmission Line construction in Worth County, Georgia. The investigated segment is known as the Flint River-Worth County Crossing. The literature and records search indicated no previously recorded prehistoric or historic cultural properties within or near the study corridor. The field investigations, conducted under ideal conditions for surface collections supplemented by 107 patterned shovel cuts, revealed the presence of a single prehistoric cultural property. That property, containing a Savannah River Archaic projectile point base, a probable Woodland period ceramic sherd, and a fragmentary pipestem, was found to lack surficial or stratigraphic integrity. No additional investigations are recommended for the single, identified cultural property.
