Abstract

This report documents a reconnaissance level cultural resources survey for a reservoir proposed by the Clayton County Water Authority. The survey area is located in southwestern Henry County and covers 367 acres. Intensive survey was made of eight areas within the reservoir, focusing on locations predicted to have a high potential for prehistoric occupation based on their soil associations and proximity to drainages. A total of four sites were recorded on the survey. Three of the sites yielded diagnostic artifacts from the Archaic and Woodland periods, and no diagnostics were recovered on the fourth site. None of these sites appears eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. The survey does suggest, however, that a number of additional sites are in the proposed reservoir boundaries and that a more complete survey of the project area is warranted.
