Abstract

A Phase I cultural resources survey was conducted of the proposed Eagle's Brooke Development Tract in Henry County, Georgia in order to locate and identify cultural resources within the project area and assess resource significance. The project area covers approximately 975 acres and is located along Indian and Bethlehem Creeks approximately 3.4 kilometers west of Locust Grove, Georgia. A total of 49 archeological sites and 13 isolated finds were recorded. Occupations represented include the Middle Archaic, Late Archaic, and Woodland/Mississippian periods and late 19th to middle 20th century. Four of the sites (Sites 9HY359, 9HY365, 9HY368, and 9HY374) were recommended potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The remaining sites and isolated finds are considered ineligible for the NRHP. Phase II testing was conducted at the four sites recommended potentially eligible for the NRHP during the Phase I survey. Following testing, Sites 9HY359, 9HY365, 9HY368, and 9HY374 are recommended ineligible for the NRHP.
