Abstract

On August 10-11, Brockington and Associates completed a background literature review and field investigations for an intensive shovel testing survey for the proposed realignment of the Norcross-Suwannee 230 kV transmission line further south of the road and onto National Park Service (NPS) property (Chattahoochee River national Recreation Area). These investigations were completed pursuant to the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA) of 1979, under a permit issued by the NPS on July 27, 2009. This power line and its new corridor pass through the existing site boundaries of 9F0218, an NRHP-eligible Woodland-Mississippian and Protohistoric site spanning both sides of McGinnis Ferry Road near its Chattahoochee River crossing. The current survey has been designed as additional site delineation and assessment in order to address any potential adverse effects to site 9F0218. The study methods, results, and recommendations are described below.
