Abstract

Greenhouse CONSULTANTS incorporated was retained by the Jefferson County Development Authority to undertake a pedestrian archaeological survey and limited shovel testing of a 228.7 acre parcel proposed for development as the Louisville Industrial Park, located on US Highway 1 Bypass, Louisville, Georgia. Survey fieldwork was conducted from September 1 through 5, 2002, under the direction of staff principal investigator John W. Matthews. Lauren Faulkenberry served as archaeological field technician. Diane Hammonds, archaeological technician, served as field and laboratory assistant. The purpose of this survey is to determine if the proposed project parcel would affect any prehistoric or historic cultural resources or historic properties that would indicate previous human occupation. The investigation was completed to comply with state and federal (Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act) regulations and guidelines for Federal-involvement projects. An archaeological reconnaissance survey of the proposed project area was undertaken, as was excavation of a limited number shovel tests within sensitive areas of project impacts. Photographs were taken of any historic properties within the project parcel.
