Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, contractor borrow areas for project FLF-540(6), Taylor County have been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project area. The proposed project would provide two borrow sites for the construction on new location of parallel bridges over the Flint River and Beechwood Swamp west of Fort Valley. The proposed borrow sites are located west of the Flint River and south of S.R.96. The proposed sites would contain approximately +/- 30 acres. An archaeological survey of the proposed borrow areas was conducted.
