Abstract

Project IM-75-3(189) would reconstruct the 1-75 bridges over SR 156/Redbud Road in Gordon County. This project has been subjected to two previous archaeological surveys, the first was done in December 1995 and the second in November 1999 both by Eric Anthony Duff (HP# HP991123-002). Since the previous surveys, the proposed project has been changed to include mainline widening, an intersection improvement, and the addition of two access roads onto new location. The mainline widening on SR 156/Redbud Road would begin at Curtis Parkway/Warrior Path and terminate 500 feet to the east. The intersection improvement would be located at Harmony Church Road/CR 474 at its intersection with SR 156/Redbud Road. Harmony Church Road/CR 474 would be shifted onto new location approximately 50 feet to the west of its present alignment where it intersects with SR 156/Redbud Road. The first access road would be an extension of Adventist Drive so that it would intersect with Newton Church Road. The second access road extension would connect Columbus Circle, Columbus Drive, and Warrior Path. The existing right-of-way for this section of SR 156/Redbud Road is approximately 60 feet. The required right-of-way for SR 156/Redbud Road would vary with a maximum of 70 additional feet. The existing right-of-way for Harmony Church Road/CR 474 is 50 feet. The required right-of-way for Harmony Church Road/CR 474 varies with a maximum of 65 feet where it goes onto new location. The required right-of-way for the Adventist Drive to Newton Church Road segment is approximately 80 feet. The required right-of-way for the Columbus Circle, Columbus Drive and Warrior Path segment is approximately 50 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor.
