Abstract

Project IM-75-3(189) would reconstruct the I-75 bridges over SR 156 in Gordon County. The project also includes minor widening on SR 156 adjacent to I-75. The proposed project on I-75 would begin 0.1 mile south and end 0.1 mile north of the existing SR 156 bridge over I-75. The proposed project on SR 156 would begin at the intersection of Curtis Parkway/Warrior Drive then continue easterly to an end point just east of Newton Church Road. The existing right-of-way on SR 156 is approximately 60 feet, while the existing right-of-way on I-75 is a maximum of approximately 650 feet. The additional required right-of- way needed for project construction on SR 156 is a maximum of approximately 70 feet. The additional required right-of-way needed for project construction on I-75 is a maximum of approximately 50 feet. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or potentially eligible National Register archaeological resources were located within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect as described in paragraph two above. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.".
