Abstract

The proposed project would consist of upgrading the existing traffic signal installations at the following nine intersections in Hall County, Georgia: 1. SR 13 (Atlanta Hwy) and Snelling Avenue/Spout Springs Rd, 2. SR 53 (Mundy Mill Rd) and Old Oakwood Rd, 3. SR 60 (Thompson Bridge Rd) and SR 283, 4. SR 11 (Cleve land Hwy) and SR 52 (Dahlonega Hwy), 5. SR 11 Bnsiness (Cleveland Hwy) and SR 284 (Clarks Bridge Rd)/Barrett St, 6. SR 13 (Atlanta Hwy) and Memorial Park Drive, 7. SR 53 (McEver Rd) and Mountain View Rd, 8. SR 53 (Mundy Mill Rd) and SR 53 (McEver Rd), 9. SR 53 (Mundy Mill Rd) and Old Flowery Branch Rd. The proposed intersection improvements would vary by location. Proposed improvements would include the removal of existing signal equipment including signal poles and traffic signal cabinets. Upgrades would consist of the installation of signal displays, signal control equipment, pedestrian accommodations, and/or system communications. Poles and signal displays may involve installing self supporting joint-use poles, concrete strain poles, signal span, LED displays, and D-spec signs. Signal control equipment may include a new cabinet and controller. Pedestrian accommodations may include the installation of cross walks, new American Disability Act (ADA) ramps, pedestrian signals and pushbuttons, concrete is lands, and cut through in raised asphalt areas. Other improvements may include install guardrail, replace traffic striping, and rebuild a driveway. Signal upgrades can be improved without additional right-of-way at fourteen intersections. A total of 513 square feet of additional right-of-way beyond the existing right-of-way limits will be required at two intersections: 243 square feet in the southeast quadrant at Intersection I, and 270 square feet in the southwest quadrant at Intersection 4. This project was originally surveyed for archaeological resources by New South Associates in April 2012 (Botwick and Davis 2012). Since that time, project changes have resulted in the addition of work at a tenth intersection, SR 53/Mundy Mill Road and Mathis Drive. Proposed work at this intersection includes the installation of a wireless broadband Ethernet panel with radio unit onto an existing utility pole in the northeast quadrant of the intersection. Antenna wires will be attached to the existing signal span wire connecting to the pole and cabinet in the southwest corner of the intersection. No ground disturbance will be involved in the installation and all work will be performed within the existing right-of-way.
