Abstract

This report documents the results of a cultural resources survey of the proposed Chase Road Substation, located in Habersham County, Georgia. This survey was conducted by Garrow & Associates, Inc., Atlanta for Oglethorpe Power Corporation, Tucker, Georgia. The project area is located approximately one mile north of Cornelia, Georgia and consists of 2.856 acres of rural property which contains two residential structures and an abandoned apple orchard. The fieldwork was conducted by the author on July 14, 1992. The methods employed included pedestrian surface inspection and the systematic excavation of subsurface shovel test pits. No significant archaeological or isolated finds were discovered during this survey. The two twentieth-century residential structures located on the study tract were examined and are recommended ineligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. No additional cultural resource investigations are recommended for the tract prior to installation of the Chase Road Substation.
